Do you like acrobats? Can can dancers? Casinos? Starting tomorrow, the Triple Door will be putting on its 4th-annual cabaret/variety show for three nights through Saturday. The theme of the show is an interesting and odd blend of Las Vegas sensationalism with the quaint and quirky film we’re all so familiar with, The Wizard of Oz.

Of Mice and MenThe Seattle Repertory Theatre (SRT) kicked off it’s run of the classic novel, Of Mice and Men this past Friday. The stage version of the book, which was also written by John Steinbeck follows two men trying to carry-out their dream of one day owning land of their own. Lennie Small, strong-bodied and soft-headed, finds himself in hot water, and George Milton, quick-witted and Lennie’s protector must deal with the consequences.

Persian New Year Celebration @ Town Hall

Have you ever been to a Persian New Year’s Celebration? The Persian culture is far more than food, rugs, and hookahs, and tonight at Town Hall you can check out what the Persian New Year is all about. Named “Nowruz,” or “new day,” it’s a day that is much like the Western New Year and takes place around the Spring Equinox (yes, Spring is starting to come to Seattle!).
Tonight’s event celebrates the most important holiday in the Zoroastrian calendar, a religiously-based calendar that was followed by Iranians/Persians for centuries. There will be …

It’s a little bit earlier than I’d normally push an event (one week as opposed to the day of, or a day or two before), but I’m always so excited about the Seattle NoSQL (including Hadoop) meetup that I can’t wait :) Come on over to 426 Terry Ave N at 7pm on Wednesday, March 23.

Coen Brothers Double Feature at Central Cinema

Oh, that George Clooney. Whenever he’s around the multiple Academy Award nominated Coen Brothers, he just gets so silly! Not to mention Nicholas Cage and, particularly, John Goodman. This Friday – Sunday, March 18 to March 20, Central Cinema will be showing a double feature of “O Brother, Where Art Thou” and “Raising Arizona,” two very, very funny films.
You’ve probably heard about Central Cinema before – it’s a fun place to go for a movie and you can eat and drink while you’re watching!  There aren’t many pub theaters …

Tomorrow night, 5pm at the Museum of History and Industry come to Smart Cities 101, a moderated discussion about the emerging networked world. As you may or may not know, an increasing number of every-day objects, power meters and traffic signs to name two, are becoming networked and are collecting data about the world around us. This panel discussion will explore what the state of the art is, and where industry and government are going. We’ll learn what techniques are being used, and for what applications.

The second Thursday of every month the Seattle Xcoders get together to talk about building iPhone and iPad apps. Last month they discussed revenue strategies for the app store. This month they’re talking about using HTML 5 to build iOS interfaces. So if you’re interested in learning about building iPhone apps, then stop by 925 4th Ave, and head up to the 16th floor at 6:30pm tonight. I haven’t personally been to one of Xcoders’ events in the past, but I know enough iPhone devs to know that the conversation should be both technical and beautiful.

SIFF Marathon of “The Kingdom” Event This Sunday

The 1994 Danish TV show “The Kingdom,” otherwise known as “Ringet,” has been described as a Z-grade horror film, a starkly black comedy, and a directorial sequel to “Twin Peaks.” Never heard of it? Well, now’s your chance! SIFF Cinema in Seattle Center will be showing a marathon of the entire  single-season series this Sunday, March 13. It’s only going to set you back $20, and it’s going to be awesome!
The series is described as being set in the neurosurgical ward of Copenhagen’s Rigshospitalet, the city and country’s main hospital, nicknamed “Riget”. The …

Every Tuesday, 6:30pm at Espresso Vivace there’s a Ruby on Rails Developer Meetup. So head on over to 532 Broadway Ave E to meet some other web developers and drink a latte while discussing models, views and controllers. Whether you’re an experienced rails ninja looking to network and chat about the latest rails stack on Heroku, or you’re a novice trying to pick up a popular website framework, the Rails meetup has something to offer you. I have been both, and finding other rails geeks is key to pick up the richness that Rails brings to any web dev project. The “very informal and non-presentational” format of the Rails meetups are great to find exactly those kinds of people without any pressure to present or take notes.
