Have you ever been to a Persian New Year’s Celebration? The Persian culture is far more than food, rugs, and hookahs, and tonight at Town Hall you can check out what the Persian New Year is all about. Named “Nowruz,” or “new day,” it’s a day that is much like the Western New Year and takes place around the Spring Equinox (yes, Spring is starting to come to Seattle!).
Tonight’s event celebrates the most important holiday in the Zoroastrian calendar, a religiously-based calendar that was followed by Iranians/Persians for centuries. There will be …

Do you know why Kramer was temporarily turned into a turkey? What tastes like a chicken bone – cigarettes or cigars? What type of liquor can you drink without even smelling? What type of salad causes George grief? If you know the answers to these critical and necessary questions, you probably need to watch less TV. More importantly, you definitely need to enter The Contest, the wonderful Seinfeld contest taking place at Wallingford’s Blue Star Cafe and Pub. It’s organized by Geeks who Drink, the fantastic organizers of many-a-trivia night …

There have been a slew of great films this year, and tonight at the Central Cinema, you can celebrate them all with great food and, even greater, adult beverages – all while watching the 83rd annual Academy Awards! This years’ best pictures include Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King’s Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit, and Winter’s Bone (phew!). That’s right – there are now 10 nominees each year instead of 5, so it’s incredibly unlikely that you’ve seen them all. …

It’s was Monday- Memorial Day, and the first sunny day since the middle of last week. I was on the fence about venturing away from the neighborhood dive, (and I use that term endearingly) but a friend had told me of a fundraiser hosted by the bar that raises money to benefit veterans. I was interested enough to cast routine to the wind and head east for at least one to check it out. I made my way around the lake to ‘The Rav’ mid afternoon, and was immediately pleased …

Dusk off those bikes, grab your I.D., and ride down to Via Triunali‘s for happy hour between 5pm and 7pm for their signature Margherita happy hour pizza. There’s a catch, each one of the 5 Via Tribunali’s store locations are included in the free pizza deal, but only one store location will be playing sponsor each Wednesday starting with Georgetown’s location on May 12th, and ending the Tour Of Seattle at Fremont’s store location on June 9th.
The idea? Raising funds for our local biking community with the help …

Earlier in the week I ended up in Maple Valley to visit friends. I forgot my passport but still managed to get there. Canadian security sure is lax. They wanted to feed this VIP in Bigfoot Country so we picked up a pie from the local Frankie’s chain. They have five other locations in remote exotic locales such as Issaquah that I hope to visit when I’ve saved up enough money to travel.
We got a combination in an 18″ but It looked bigger to me. I should probably start carrying …

Snoose Junction Pizzeria

Now the brewery isn’t exactly pizza oriented but they do have a $5 happy hour sausage mini pizza and of course beer. I’d heard this lil pie was a bargain and made myself try. You see, I’m very biased against mini-pizzas. Always have been. They kind of piss me off but I’m not sure why. I’ll always take pizza by the slice over a mini pizza or even a small 10″ than get the Cooper S of pies. But in this …

My former co-worker King Sami had a layover between The State Texas Bows To and some golf course in Palm Springs so I used this as an excuse to risk life and limb crossing the West Seattle Bridge to Somewhere, specifically Alki. My guests get the VIP treatment and that means Pegasus. And I hadn’t been there since setting up shop in January down here so I figured I better be sure it was still worthy of the top spot.
It was. …

It has come to my attention that some Seattle magazine already does a pizza report of some kind and that March is when the pizza issue hits shelves. Not my problem. In fact, that’s their problem. Are you going to trust the taste of a critic you’ve never met over your new homeboy at Scenester. That’s right, F-word no. We’re in this together. We don’t need them. I’ve been eating pizza since I grew teeth so I’m more than qualified.
Anywhozawhats, I’m giving you two …

Nothing happens on Tuesday and this was a classic case of bored drinking. Maybe if Hollywood wouldn’t sit on all their flicks til summer I could go see a movie but they want me to find a bar instead of a cinema. Fine. So be it. I will.
I downed a Pyramid Apricot Ale 22oz I found in the fridge. I think Johnny Weir left it there. Okay, I bought it. You got me. It was the closest thing to produce I’ve had in a while. From there I decided to …
