Shout Out Louds w/ Freelance Whales @ Neumo’s

As noted in a previous post, Shout Out Louds and their Queens’ Compadres, Freelance Whales were the Scenester Show of The Month for May. While there were many reasons for this, the biggest reason lies in the fact that not only are both of these bands incredible but that both these powerhouses were on the bill together. Saturday, the bands joined at Neumo’s for an incredible, sold-out show.
As the crowd walked in, I doubt that anyone could help but notice the tour bus parked outside of the venue. …

Starfucker @ Neumos

Neumos – May 10th: You know you’re at an all-ages show when “the wave” gets busted out in-between acts. It’s been a long time since Neumos has seen a damn near sold-out show on Monday night filled with people jumping mosh-like for an opening band. They bring a high energy hip-hop show with a Seattle backing. Next up was Truckasaurus, a Seattle techno-MEATS-hip-hop crew with three guys making techno beats and three drunk and stoned guys behind them dancing and doing their damndest to get the crowd pumped up. …

James Taylor & Carole King: Troubadour Reunion

Key Arena – May 9th: One of the better announcements of 2009 was from James Taylor and Carole King – announcing that they would be joining for a U.S. Tour. No matter what genre you are into, there is a good chance that one of these two, if not both are on the list of influences of your favorite artist. Through a series of coincidences, James Taylor met Peter Asher (head of Beatles’ Apple Records), who in 1968, allowed JT to play “Something in the Way She Moves” …

2010 Sasquatch First-Aid Kit

For those of you new Sasquatch-going kids, we thought it would be smart to put together a “How to Survive Sasquatch” piece because of its rather tumultuous nature.
Last year, it was hotter than hell and absolutely beautiful. I was more sun-burnt that weekend than any other weekend of the summer. However, three years ago was the infamous shit-show hail storm when it rained down golf ball size hail for over an hour. The fact of the matter is that you’ll never know what to expect for weather. I promise you …

Blank Canvas: First Friday & Open House

Seattle Scenester takes pride in Seattle’s arts, music, food & drink, and non-profits and these are the foundation of the mission and vision. So, what better event to attend than a night capturing some of the best of all of these in the same room?
Blank Canvas, a Seattle non-profit, is an organization with a wide array of ideas collaborating art, Seattle artists, and other non-profits. For four years, Kristen Young, Executive Director of Blank Canvas, has been throwing annual events hosting teams of artists and non-artists that join …

With a strong Seattle backing, a fabulous show from Los Campesinos! was not in question; the question, rather, was how fabulous the show would be. The Showbox at the Market tends to carry a good balance of friendly bartenders, a wild crowd and wonderful sound and lighting. The all-ages show was fairly far from sold out, even with the Southwest corner lounge gated off and the under 21 crowd was well represented which actually added a loud, wild spin to the evening.

The opening band, Signals, from Los Angeles, were …

May Show of the Month: Shout Out Louds

In March of 2009, Shout Out Louds gathered in Stockholm after a brief break to get back to work. The recording of Shout Out Louds’ third album began just outside of Seattle in August of 2009 with the first non-Swede producer to spin with Shout Out Louds, Seattle’s Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Throw Me The Statue, Built To Spill) on their 2010 LP, Work. The video for Work’s first single, “Walls”, produced by SOL bass player and Swedish Grammy Winner, Ted Malmros, was shot in Seattle with glimpses of …

April 17, 2010 (4/17/10)
As an avid show-catcher, there is little that makes one more excited than a free show but every avid show-catcher knows that free shows are typically shows you want to miss. However, anyone aware of Seattle’s independent record store shows would agree that these free shows are one’s you don’t miss.

April 17th marked Record Store Day, a culturally recognized holiday on the third Saturday of April, celebrating the 700 independent record stores across the nation and the distinct façade they bring to a city. (Metallica played …
