Seattle’s Best (Party)

Walking into the Seattle Art Museum has never been so fun. As you walk up to the front door, you can’t help but notice a line of a few hundred “Seattle” branded people waiting to get in the door. Although this particular SAM REMIX party sold out, there was a fair amount of people with leftover tickets hovering around the front door. You couldn’t help but notice a fair amount of people dressed in wigs which is hardly a rare thing but there were just enough to notice some sort …

Monochromatic May: 31 Days in Grey @ Gallery4Culture

Normally when I go on the First Thursday art walk around Pioneer Square, I go straight from Howard House to SOIL, passing the space on the corner of Washington and Third. But last week, a friend of mine suggested we check out what Gallery4Culture had to offer for the month of May.

Open until May 27th, Amy-Ellen Flatchestedmama Trefsger showcases photographs and clothing items from a month long performance piece that she has been dedicated to for the past three years. Beginning in 2007, Trefsger began Monochromatic May: 31 days in …

Howard House: Patti Warashina, “Conversations” Photos

This month Howard House is featuring Patti Warashina, “Conversations”.
“Warashina might best be described as a lyrical absurdist, her work merging the sensibilities of René Magritte and Hieronymus Bosch. Over her long and celebrated career, now spanning almost 45 years, the artist’s ceramic figures and objects have blended realism with wit and satire. Notably for Warashina, the body is almost always at the center of these narratives of the absurd, serving as a marker of the physical and psychological, of events both political and personal.” – via Howard House

Davidson Galleries: Tram Bui

This Month, Davidson Galleries is featuring Tram Bui.

“Tram Bui’s exhibition of new oil paintings on panel extends her interest in dichromatic silhouettes of buildings under construction. The colors are vivid and the drawing precise, but the surfaces are more meticulously rendered. Unlike her previous shows, this body is conceived as a whole, systematically exploring basic color theory through a succession of two-color pairings, alternating the descriptions of the sky and the building. All but one of the images draw on various views of the same building rather than different buildings. …

So after learning that there are two bars named “Taste” in downtown Seattle and completely missing my party (sorry guys, I promise I didn’t ditch you on purpose!), I found myself left exploring the First Thursday art exhibits by myself. As a result of my lateness, I didn’t really get past the Seattle Art Museum, but that’s alright, because it had plenty to entertain me for an hour and a half while I lost track of time. For those of you who didn’t go this month, I would highly recommend …
